About Us

Since its formation in 2009, the core Decorative Effects team has been Sarah and Perry.

Sarah started her career as a freelance scenic artist for The Royal Opera House, The English National Opera and The National Theatre. Her extensive knowledge of period ornamentation and traditional techniques such as murals, trompe l'oeil, faux wood graining and faux marbling are now utilised in many of our projects.

Perry became a freelance specialist decorator in 2009, having worked for a prestigious specialist decorations company for the previous twelve years. He is a highly qualified heritage skills painter, with a variety of industry accreditations.

They have a team of twelve specialist decorators, gilders and craftsmen, all highly skilled within their particular fields of expertise. For example, and to name a few: Paul has 20 years' experience as a high class decorator and gilder and is an expert in all our common finishing techniques; likewise Jason (10 years' experience), and Miranda (9 years'); and Luca, with 30 years' experience, whom in addition to excelling in all our standard techniques is also a commercial muralist.

Our artists are able to replicate fine artwork - such as bespoke pieces for insurance purposes, produce specialist one - off art installations, or create a series of artistic commissions.
Recent projects on which we've worked have ranged from relatively small undertakings, through to much larger commissions, such as the redecoration of multiple rooms in privately owned residences and commercial properties. In 2011 we restored the Neoclassical staircase at Boconnoc house in Cornwall, and the house was subsequently awarded the Historic Houses Association/Sotheby's Restoration Award 2012, as well as the Georgian Group Architectural Award "Restoration of a Georgian Country House", in the same year.
